I'm torn between giving this hotel a 2 or 3 star review. As a happy Marriott rewards member who stays at Marriott properties everywhere 90% of the time, I was definitely disappointed in this one. I realize every hotel has it's time for minor and major updating, but this one seems like it's well overdue.
The good aspects were the valet/parking attendant (not the cost which is typically high for a mid-city property). He was really helpful to take care of the car and bags. The front desk staff were nice, but IMO didn't seem really thrilled to be working there. I had read that the lobby recently was redone and it was okay. Nothing spectacular.
The rest of the hotel was in need of a major updating. From the hallways to the elevator to the rooms, you can see so much wear and tear...from the wood trim to the walls, etc. Fortunately, even amidst the need for a redo, they do keep this place very clean.
Having been in Toronto many times before, I knew this location was central to the touristy area. It was not my favorite location, but had a free night there based on a Marriott promotion.
