While we enjoyed our experience overall, the Montelucia has room to improve. We have stayed here twice and both of our experiences were similar.
Let me say that this is one of the most beautiful resorts in the Phoenix Metro area. The property is directly under Camelback mountain and the views are phenomenal. The property is gorgeous and well kept.
When we arrived we were greeted by a valet who offered to park our car. I respectfully declined as it was $27 a night to have the car valeted. I opted for the $10 a night self parking.
While the bell men have golf carts to drive you around, it did not seem like they were interested in helping you unless you were valeting and tipping them right off the bat. While I understand this is how they make a living, there are plenty of other opportunities to make a tip outside of parking cars.
The front desk hosts were polite and ready for our arrival. They were prompt and had us set up in a room quickly. They allowed us to drive our car over by our room so we could drop off our bags.
When we got to the room I pulled in our bags and an ice chest. As I was putting some ice in the cooler, I spilled some water and went to clean it up. As I was wiping it up I quickly noticed that I was also wiping dirt up off the tile as I was cleaning up the water that had spilled. There was also cigarette butts littering our back patio.
The rest of the room was clean and there was very little dust or other issues in the room. The exception would be that there constantly seemed to be mosquitos and moths in the room, and we hadn't kept the door open.
The pool was very clean and relaxing. It seemed to be set to the perfect temperature and had chairs and canopies set up around it.
The servers around the pool seemed to ignore us and we had to literally flag them down to place an order with them.
The bar on site was great, they had a happy hour as well as food options.
There is also a little cafe on site (Crave) that has coffee and breakfast pastries to purchase.
Overall, we have enjoyed our time at the Montelucia, however it would be great to see some of the smaller issues resolved to make it perfect.
