| - The last time I visited Local Breeze was the third time, but not a charm. Two occasions were for lunch, the last for brunch on a Sunday. Never again. The first two times, my partner and I were alone, but we took friends to the brunch, telling them how great was the location and good was the food, not expecting what happened.
The location is great. The food ranges from better than good to very good. The service is acceptable but at our last visit was unacceptable. And that service is why I will not visit Local Breeze again. I agree with the reviewer who would rather spend eating out dollars at the variety of downtown restaurants that serve better food and (I say) with much, much better service. At our first lunch, the service was only acceptable because the waitress was having a bad day and while I doubt she meant to be condescending, she was. I don't know much about beers, but wanted to try a new one and asked her to describe a couple of the beers whose names were intriguing. To her credit, she had answers, but acted annoyed at having to do so. However, we all have bad days, we were extra pleasant to her, and she did smile when she served our order and she asked how the beer was. At our second lunch, the service was again just acceptable. At that lunch, the waitress told us that the sauce that the menu said came with our order was not available for lunch orders. I asked why the menu did not indicate that. She said something about how difficult the sauce was (béarnaise, I think). I let it go, intending to ask the next time if the sauce was available before ordering the dish.
Service at the brunch was unacceptable. We ordered. Maybe 10 minutes later, the waitress came by to refill waters. We did not see her again for almost 45 minutes, at which time I spoke with the hostess, telling her how long we had waited and that several folks who had order after us had been served. Very soon after that, our waitress showed up saying, "I heard you were looking for me." !!!! After 45 minutes and no food and no offer to refill coffees or water, you think we might be looking for our waitress! She apologized for the lateness of our order (and not for her absence), saying the kitchen was very busy. When told that many folks who ordered after us had been served and at least one such party had left already. She said that our order was delayed because one dish included steak (menu said filet medallions). Those medallions were ordered at medium rare. Any cook knows it does not take almost 45 minutes to cook what turned out to be an about 1-inch filet (not medallions) to medium rare. A filet is better than medallions, but the excuse remains ridiculous.
A friend told me that we should have gotten up after that amount of time with no visit from our waitress and left, telling the hostess to cancel our order and why. Perhaps my friend is right, but doing that feels wrong. I think we should have asked for our waitress sooner, especially since asking got our food to the table within five minutes, making the "it takes a long time to cook a filet at medium rare" excuse even more suspicious. How long had our order been sitting under lights?
Perhaps worse than the wait and the possibly mendacious excuse, the waitress is the only person who apologized to us. I have been at much more downscale and much more upscale restaurants where much less irritating to the customer situations resulted in at least an assistant manager coming to the table to say something like "sorry this happened." I guess Local Breeze is just too busy for anything like simple manners.
So if you're looking for good food at a great location, making the slightly high prices acceptable, and you don't care that much about correct menus, good service, or managers that give a care, Local Breeze would be a good choice for you. However, I cannot honestly give this place more than one star after my experiences there.
