| - I've dined there a couple times over the past year that I've lived in the Las Vegas area. As a vegetarian, I basically get a massive, molten glob of several cheeses, grilled onions, lettuce & then add some ketchup or BBQ sauce (*if* I can find it there). The reaction I get from other customers is always interesting as I tell the cook I'm a vegetarian, HOWEVER it turns out that one of the cooks that's there often is actually a vegetarian too, and note to some of you tough-guys: just because some of us vegetarians care enough about other animals to not eat them, it does not imply we don't mind fighting & hurting some dumb human who decides he needs to offer his opinion on vegetarians if he overhears our order.
The bread is very fresh, and of course it & the rest of the gooey, heart-attack-calling mess tastes great. I used to get a side of fries, but they weren't anything special, and even 200+lb glutton me doesn't need to fries if I'm planning on eating the whole sandwich then & there.
I can & will continue to try other cheesesteak joints. I know this will disgust some of you carnivores, but some cheese-steak places actually have a fake meat item (called seitan) that they'll use to create a vegetarian cheesesteak that looks and YES, once you add the cheeses, onions, sauces, etc. TASTES very similar to a real cheesesteak, so I am still looking for places that do that (Pop's doesn't). However, the product I eat at Pop's is great, and another wonderful thing about it is that it's open 24/7.
It's shaded but otherwise outdoor seating, right along the race-track/circus show that is Decatur Blvd near Arizona Charlie's -- NOT a place to be for the faint of heart, so either get it to go & get the hell out of that area, or strap-up your gat & go sit there at 2AM & enjoy your food & the 'entertainment' the street & Pop's provide.
