Checked in here for the first time because the store's attractive sign read Chinese pastry/bakery which I haven't been to one in my entire life so it was a must-to-be-discovered thing. The store is fairly small, clean, two tables and the food items are really appetizing. Lots of good looking and attractive buns which seems to be the main specialty. You have them both sweet or "salty".
I was like a kid in a candy shop which doesn't happen often except in cases like these where I get excited over good looking novelties such as here. I started off with their vanilla cup cake which I must admit it was a winner. Cotton like softness with nothing much to it yet very good to grab your buds' attention with their simplicity. Then a sugar coated donut and one with coconut something. The cup cake was the winner but the rest were pretty good also. Great! So judging from the cover, I decided to bring home almost EVERYTHING else on the frais du jour racks which included both sweet and salty
After getting home and trying the "salty" ones which were some with pork, some with beans, some with onions and some with bacon and je ne sais quoi..... I should say the whole family was disappointed. The dough was good except the stuffing in all of them were semi sweet. That's where some stars were lost and some dollars wasted because mostly they ended up in the trash.
May be it's a Chinese thing or an acquired taste but the salty being semi sweet, didn't sit well with none of us. Also, when asked about the interiors of the "wife cake"? I was told meat. Upon opening them up, you'll get a dark brown paste layer instead of "meat" which again is semi sweet. Argh!
Will I be back? Yes but only for the following three items as they were pretty good: The cup cakes (3 for $2), the natesh looking like tarts (6 for $4.50) and the sugar donuts. Other than these.... up to you to decide once you visit and which you should at least once and be the judge. You won't lose much dollars, most of their buns are under $2 a pop.
