  • I don't know if it's just me, but I don't really get the hype about MUJI. I've visited twice, and although I have made purchases, I've still felt slightly underwhelmed both times. The first time I went was during the week after their grand opening. I went on a weekday during lunch time, and the place was absolutely packed, it was so chaotic. After fighting my way through the crowd, I managed to finally pick up a few of their raved about pens in various colours and tip widths. They sell for $1.25 each and I picked up 5 for $6.25. I have had a chance to test them out since then, and they are nice... but I still don't understand why people go crazy over them. I also picked up a pair of tights that day, and they are thick and warm, but again, nothing special, plus they were $30 which is not ESPECIALLY cheap. My second time visiting was just yesterday, and it was a lot quieter than before. But that's probably because so many things were out of stock. I went to the pen section and it was pretty much cleared out except for a few of those refill things. To be fair, some of the houseware stuff at MUJI does look pretty neat, but again, it all seems more like "would be nice to have" stuff rather than "need this to revolutionize my life" stuff, which is the vibe I get from MUJI fans. I don't know, I just can't really see myself needing to come here to pick up anything for myself, but will prob just pop in once in a while just out of curiosity.
