| - I recently found out about Spinola's and was happy to hear of a bakery closer to my home. I went last week to try them out and have to say sorry, but I just wasn't very impressed. I love cupcakes. When I read about the flavors they have on their website I was looking forward to trying some. I was surprised at how small the place was, only 2 cases, one filled with almost all cookies, and the other with cupcakes and a few other items. so I picked 4 different cupcakes. I was disappointed when I opened the bag later that day. They are really small. So my first try was a Boston cream...it had the usual Boston cream chocolate icing on top which was good, and a little spot of whipped cream in the center of the icing. I cut into the cupcake expecting that wonderful Boston cream filling I love, and there was nothing. I was really expecting a filling. Instead it was a very dry plain yellow cake. Almost tasted stale. The sweet n salty cupcake was also the same dry cake. It had white icing with a pool of caramel sauce in the middle of the white. I did not taste salt. I had two chocolate cake based cupcakes, which were also dry. One was turtle and one was chocolate overload. Again, filling wouldve been great. I like sweet sugary icing, which they have, but I noticed it was a little "gritty"...I could hear the sugar between my teeth while I was chewing...kind of like sand. In addition to the cupcakes I ordered a piece of tiramisu and a piece of salty Caramel cheesecake. The tiramisu had good texture, but was sweeter than any other I've tasted. Really too sweet for tiramisu in my opinion. Finally, the cheesecake was the best of everything. It was very good, but unfortunately it's a bar pan cheesecake, not a traditional round cheesecake. Service was friendly, but i wish she wouldnt have shoved the tiramisu and the cheesecake into the same small container...the tiramisu was half smashed Glad i wasnt serving it to ompany Buckeyes looked good and the chocolate chip cookies looked great...wish I would have gotten one to try. Sorry, spinola's, I wanted to love you since I live nearby, but you got nothing on Oakmont bakery...I love their cupcakes, and just about everything else about them...I will continue to make the drive there.
