  • As a new resident in Charlotte, I was looking for an honest and highly reputable auto repair garage that I could develop a long term relationship with, and would keep my Mercedes in top form. After reading the numerous strong Yelp reviews, I decided to give Woodie's a try. My initial impression was very positive; management seemed well-informed, courteous and eager to welcome me as a new, long term customer. Too, the repair staff seemed equally knowledgeable, skilled and exceptionally polite. I reviewed in detail the work I'd like to have done, along with the 'issues' I'd like them to check, and they promised me a quick estimate on cost and my authorization before any work commenced. While they missed the day and time they said they would call me with the estimate - and I had to contact them the following day - I didn't consider this a big deal; I 'assumed' their commitments, however small, would improve as we developed a relationship. What did shock me, however, was the estimated cost of the repairs. While Woodie's was still developing their repair estimate, my wife and I stopped into Mercedes of South Charlotte, as she's considering purchasing a new car. Since we were there, we decided to inquire what Mercedes would charge us for some of the repairs Woodie's was also being asked to quote, just to get an idea. Mercedes quickly provided a full estimate of the repairs on the spot. We 'assumed' Mercedes would be higher cost than Woodie's, but we were mistaken; Woodie's was nearly 40% higher! When we informed them of this, letting them know they were charging us more for parts than Mercedes had quoted us directly - in writing - the day before, they suggested we were quoted different parts. (We weren't; Mercedes provided a written quote and diagram of the parts so we knew exactly what was quoted, and the price.) Obviously, we took our car to Mercedes of South Charlotte , who then offered us an additional 15% discount...as they want us to do all of our repair and maintenance work with them...and of course, we now will. In fairness to Woodie's, I can't believe all of their strong reviews are erroneous; undoubtedly, they're a good company who strives to provide excellent service. However, I also feel that they can't be intimate with every make and model car on the road, and you should call them first to be sure. I believe they're honest, and if I had called them first and asked them if they work extensively on Mercedes, they would have said 'no'. In short, I believe their high estimate is their lack of experience with my brand of car; and comparatively my better quote from Mercedes represents their extensive expertise. In short, consider Woodie's...but call ahead first, and check their quotes!
