  • One of the best things to do in Pittsburgh! The inclines used to be a major form of public transportation in Pittsburgh to transport workers who lived on Mount Washington up and down the mountain. There used to be a bunch of inclines here but now theres only two left that have been restored and reopened primarily as tourist attractions. The Duquesne Incline seems to be the more touristy of the two due to it having a small museum and its own observation deck at the top. A really good way to see both inclines is to park at the bottom of the Duquesne Incline which has a really cheap lot to park in and ride the Duquesne Incline up and then walk to the Monangahela Incline (about a 1 mile walk) and ride that one down. Both inclines are worth seeing in my opinion because both offer different but equally good views. The top of the Duquesne Incline gives a great view of the Pittsburgh north shore, Point State Park, and a frontal view of the downtown buildings while the Monangahela Incline offers amazing panoramic side views of the downtown skyline. The inclines are practically synonymous with Pittsburgh and are a must do when visiting to be able to say you've truly experienced the city.
