  • Went with buddies to Modern Steak yesterday, the restaurant itself is very nice and is in the space that was previously occupied by The Muse. We ordered two appetizers, the beef tartare (which was my favourite dish of the night) and the poutine. For my meal I ordered the Wagyu NY striploin medium rare with truffle butter and shared an assortment of modern sides with my buddies which included mash potatoes, scalloped potatoes, mushrooms, truffle fries and mac n cheese. I was disappointed with my steak which was lukewarm and lacked the richness that I would expect from a wagyu cut. Everyone else from the group came away expecting more based on the price. The truffle butter did not add much to the steak. I would have given a three star but given the price point I felt a 2 rating was appropriate. The modern sides weren't very memorable but not much to complain about. Service was great just felt that the food experience was disappointing after reading many reviews on yelp. Not sure I will return as there are far better options for the price.
