  • I wish this place had been open when we lived in Squirrel Hill! Notes on the pho: -Pho portions are on the large side, with a very fresh, clean both--very few additions. It reminds me of Tram's Kitchen's pho, so if you're a fan of Tram's, you'll be a fan of the pho here. -The only green they add to the broth is green onion. They provide sprouts, thai basil, cilantro, culantro, and lime for you to add, according to your taste. This is the only pho joint in PGH that I've seen provide culantro leaves, which was a very welcome addition. -I didn't really get the aromatics that I usually look for in pho [anise, cinnamon, clove, etc.] and so it didn't feel like the full experience for me. We also ordered the grilled chicken broken rice (com tam?) which hit the spot, but meat was on the rubbery side. I was a little confused by the shredded pork on the dish though...it was a pretty weird texture and I just couldn't get into it. Interior is small (only about 30 seats), but clean with an interesting mix of decor. The owner served us, and she was incredibly warm and engaging. She told us about the upstairs room that can be reserved for larger parties... and apparently will have a karaoke machine, and so I asked if they are BYOB and she confirmed they indeed are. I'm realizing that while I enjoyed my experience here, the pho isn't really the type that I crave. I think I'll stick to my favorites, but maybe if we move back to Squirrel Hill, we'll visit here more often.
