  • Whenever I go to Vegas, I like to take at least one day to get away from the noise. As luck has it, it's May and the weather is reasonable for these parts, so I don't have to donate a bucket of sweat to enjoy Red Rock Canyon. The kiddies came with, so I won't be climbing treacherous terrain ala Sylvester Stallone in "Cliffhanger". (Look it up, he's defenitely climbing treacherous terrain!) The good news is that they have easy trails that are short, picturesque and family friendly. You can skip the trails and just drive from vantage point to vantage point. The one road takes you around to a set of view and rest points that are about a 10 minute drive from the one another. Each stop also has a shaded area and bathrooms. That's an important factor for me. We opted to drive from stop to stop, take a 15 minute stroll and hit the next stop. Hey I love nature as much as the next guy, but there's like 2 outlet malls nearby. I know I gave a lecture in the beginning of my review about getting away from the strip and how important it is, but the outlet mall is technically outside and I will be doing lots of walking. It's basically the same this as this place, but with Nike Stores and Aunt Annie's instead of snakes and scorpions. Back to the canyon to finish my thought. We had a nice time and we were able to appreciate the splendor that is Mother Nature. It's very easy to spend an entire day here and this is the perfect time of year to spend extended time outside in Nevada. Bring a hat and some water and support our parks!
