| - Just visited my fav city again and booked another wonderful stay at the Mirage.
Pretty much everything I wrote in my previous email pertains; even got upgraded for free to the 23rd floor and had a pretty awesome strip view since they ran out of queen rooms. Share bed with brother, get higher up in the tower with a sweet view. That sounds fair to me!
Reasons for docking a star:
- Resort fees. So lame and making it mandatory for customers to pay for amenities not used is just stupid. I know, it's standard for Vegas but that still doesn't make it right. It is only $25 a night but when you get rated for $40 base per night for two nights, you're essentially adding the cost of staying an extra night's stay. Feel me? Included wifi is pretty cool though and I was able to access it with my phone.
- Restaurants aren't that great here so you'll probably end up walking somewhere else to stuff your face. We seriously only grabbed things from Starbucks and CPK in the 2.5 days we stayed -- for all our other meals and eatery needs, we strolled over to the adjacent casinos. Pretty inconvenient and I wish management would look into upping the quality of the dining options they offer.
- I broke my cardinal rule of Mirage and played some craps here. I'm not too superstitious but I really just get a bad vibe rolling dice here; still don't know why...dealers/stickmen aren't terribly fun or entertaining like they should be. I mean, if I'm paying $100/hr+ for entertainment, I'm damn well not expecting the dice themselves to make me laugh or get into the game. Not asking for the dealers to be stand-up comedians or fascinate me by reproducing scenes documentaries I've seen on NatGeo, but more friendly interaction at the tables would really uprate Mirage in my book. Best craps staff I've met so far are at Caesar's and Aria. Maybe I wouldn't be complaining if I didn't always lose my figurative gambling shirt at Mirage, but for your own gambling safety, just trek it out to the Palace or somewhere else, especially if you like to roll dice.
Notable positives:
- Came here when the weather was super weird and overcast; pool was fairly empty and still pretty amazing. Deck chairs were neatly arranged and clean, not a lot of trash laying around from what I saw, pool water was for the most part clear (I'm really hoping the murkiness was from lots of chlorine and residual sunscreen), servers made their rounds to us a couple of times, staff was enforcing the "1hr absence allowed till we pick up your shite" rule so people can't reserve spots at the crack of dawn and keep 'em till whenever they feel like it.
- Really need to emphasize -- GREAT bang for your buck, especially if you are a rewards member and get comps. Rooms were perfect, not loud at all, overall the property is very nice for what you pay for. I also am a pretty firm believer that Mlife offers the best range of hotels within the MGM/Mirage properties -- I'm perfectly content with spending money within the MGM/Mirage network, especially Aria.
Mirage, I love you...I really do. But I think next time I'll have to give Aria a whirl for a change of pace and I like the craps dealers better there. Please understand -- at least I'm cheating on you with your sister property. Wait...that sounded a lot better in my head.
