I had Trattoria Nakamura bookmarked for a while until I got around to trying it. I was in the mood for pasta and didn't have any Italian restaurants bookmarked so I decided to give it a try.
After looking through the large menu, I noticed they had two full pages of appetizers, two full pages of entree dishes, and many dishes containing seafood. I wasn't intrigued by any of the appetizers but I wanted to try their tomato cream sauce so I chose the tomato Farsi gratin and for my entree the miso carbonara. They also brought out a plate of sweet bread rolls and a basket filled with chopsticks and utensils.
Bread rolls- the bread was sweet and accompanied by hard squares of butter
Tomato Farsi gratin- octopus and squid were rubbery; tomato cream sauce was flavorful. In this dish I did not see the fusion of Japanese and Italian ingredients
Miso carbonara- I was envisioning a creamy carbonara sauce infused with miso flavor
and what I got was a watery sauce containing minimal green onions and bacon which did not enhance the flavor. The taste of this dish did not give me the Japanese Italian integration I was looking for because I could not taste the miso
From the appetizer to the entree I tried, the Japanese ingredients were almost non existent in the taste of the dish.
