| - Kinda underwhelmed by this place. I was drawn in by my first experience with the Papago Orange Blossom. That euphoric first taste combined with my love of breweries had me so stoked for Papago Brewing!
Walking in on a Saturday around 2pm, I had really high hopes when I saw the sorta grungy dark look and the piles of board games. My party of 4 sat down at a booth and were so excited to quench our thirst with an ice cold beer and a good game of BananaGrams.
With the beer menu, I was surprised by how few Arizona beers there were. It seemed primarily imports from California, which I tend to stray away from since I can go back home to these breweries themselves. Of the Papago beers, the orange blossom still has my heart. The perfect wheat beer with orange blossom and vanilla hints- so refreshing for a warm spring day!!! The coconut Porter too - wow. So smooth and delicious.
Food was just...okay. Nothing really caught my eye too much, but I was craving meat so I went with the pulled pork sliders. I asked for my BBQ sauce on the side since I find most places overdo sauces for my taste. The waitress nodded, but my sliders ended up coming very much with sauce inside. Now that I think back, it's probably bc sauce is incorporated into pulled pork....But still, I'm confused why the waitress would've nodded in agreement? I also wish the buns would've been a little toasted because the sliders were lacking some kind of umph factor. I didn't try my friend's chicken pita because it just looked kinda normal to me. Nothing eye catching or drool worthy.
That's kind of my overall experience. Service was a tad slow for a Saturday afternoon during which the brewery looked pretty empty. Food wasn't bad but not really special. Pros were all the fun board games, but not sure I'd drive out all the way here specifically for Papago, seeing how my favorite beers are readily available elsewhere. If I were in the area and just wanted a good beer at a bar, I'd probably drop by for one.
