| - If you are looking for a yoga place that is closer to Vinyasa/flow/power yoga style. This is NOT that place. Now, I do yoga for exercise. Like, I wanna sweat. I didn't break a sweat here once. I'm not into the meditation/chanting aspects of yoga, and actually shy or rather, run away from studios that are "spiritually" focused.
I knew it was a Korean style of yoga, but... had no idea how different it was. Part of it felt like an aerobics class, and the other part I felt like I was taking a nap.... It felt more like something for older people. Considering that I was the youngest person in the class by AT LEAST 15 years, I'd say that is accurate.
The class starts with these circle exercises, where you all stand in a circle and do breathing exercises while counting aloud. Not my thing. We also did a bunch of jumping jacks, and stretching exercises where you bounce. I've always been trained to NEVER bounce while doing stretches, so that was new.
The kicker for me, was towards the end. You partner up, and they give you a card (which I thought was a tip envelope at first!!!), that is printed with the same image as the giant poster on the wall. It's a new-agey colorful starburst like thing. I was told by my partner that the card had healing powers. The instructor then guides the "healer"/person holding the card to move the card over the other person's chakras. And you say "light particles - FIRE!" at each point. I am not making this up. My partner informed me that I was supposed to feel warmth or something wherever the card was moving. I felt.... out of sorts. My partner said she felt the power. To each, their own.
At the end of class, you stand in the circle, laugh heartily for 30 seconds, and then have a cup of tea and share your experiences.
In conclusion: if you like this meditational style of "yoga", then this place is probably for you! It seems like all the members have a tight community and enjoy themselves immensely, and the staff is REALLY really nice. It's just not for me, or others who practice yoga for the same reasons that I do.
