| - I booked a flight for myself and 2 of my friends from PHX to SFO on Expedia. I didn't choose Frontier because it was the cheapest, I chose it because it was nonstop, and the flight times were not too early or too late.
First, I don't understand all of the complaints about "hidden fees". The fees are clearly listed on their website. Yes, they will nickel and dime you so just do your homework and plan accordingly. Even with the $35 I ended up paying for my carry on, the flight was still cheaper than every other airline (and nonstop).
I knocked off points because of how disorganized this airline is. First, there are not enough self-checkin kiosks and the only ones are up at the counter so you HAVE to wait in line for your boarding pass....a really, really long, disorganized line. Half of the kiosks weren't even working. They must also have an archaic system because when the customer service people at the desk checked us out it took FOREVER to print our 3 boarding passes. There were also several errors and we had to run our credit cards several times to pay for our luggage. This, and they have a sign that says that they stop checking people in 45 minutes before the flight time (thank God we were early). Expect up to an hour wait to check in and get your boarding pass.
The airplane itself was fine- just an old flying bus. The flight attendants were pleasant as well. You have to pay for snacks- here's a novel idea, bring your own snacks if this bothers you. We planned ahead and brought a bunch of mini booze with us so we were satisfied with a cup of free ice on the plane.
Finally, I read a lot of bad reviews about delayed flights and the airline not being accommodating enough. Well, both of our flights were right on time so I'm not sure how frequent this issue actually is. Take the feedback with a grain of salt and hope for the best. I see setbacks like flight delays as additional adventures (albeit annoying ones), but we had no issues with our flights (and I must add that both flights were very smooth).
All in all, I would say that I would not fly with Frontier again if I was able to choose a comparable flight (in terms of departure/arrival times and whether or not it's nonstop), but if the best flight time was through Frontier, I would take the risk again and plan for the above annoyances.
Frontier should really just invest in self check-in kiosks where you can print your own boarding pass like every other airline does. That would alleviate SO much time and effort.
