I wanted to like this place. I did. After reading Yelp reviews, I was excited at the prospect of good sushi within walking distance from my new apartment, so I went for a sushi dinner with a friend. I will grant the enthusiastic reviewers that the sushi at Chaya is better and more Japanese than the Chinese-run sushi restaurant around the corner. It is, however, still mediocre sushi: no flavor, a bit dry, completely unmemorable. I even disliked their unagi rolls, and if you've read any of my other sushi restaurant reviews, you'll understand what a blow that was.
On the upside, the restaurant is pleasantly decorated and the service is fast and friendly. Their miso soup was also quite good. Perhaps their non-sushi entreés are better?
