  • I have no idea why this restaurant has only five reviews. At first I thought it was new but I see there's a review from 2013. Located in Mile End on a major road, it wouldn't appear to be missed much, but perhaps this is still a secret that we should keep. We wandered in here after bad Valentine's Day planning. We were able to grab a table for two, granted, this fabricated holiday fell on a Sunday and it was record temperature cold outside. It's BYOB which worked fine for us having picked up an Argentine wine at SAQ a few days ago. We didn't really know what to expect. The service was attentive and accommodating, even despite my total lack of French. The dining room was rather minimalist, so not a romantic restaurant--but one that helps one focus on the food. We started with what google translator says is, "Cake black pudding has beer , crispy bacon , cranberries and mashed bread burns". So we assume black pudding with beer, crispy bacon, cranbeeries, and brulee bread smashy. It was a bit of a rough starter because it was incredibly rich from top to bottom, but still so delicious. The cranberries helped pop out flavor from all the fat. We also ordered the trout mousse, a contrast to our other entree. Served with a light horseradish whip, caviar, apples, and blinis, it was far airy in flavor despite relatively denser and heavy blini then I'm used to. For our entrees I had the lobster risotto which was salty and rich like the crustacean. They top the risotto with crispy rice (looked like forbidden rice) which made me scratch my head at first but after a few bites really enjoyed the toasty detail it gave the dish. A fennel garnish was a helpful addition to create a little more dimension to the dish. My partner ordered the pheasant which was stuffed and served with different vegetables. I got a few bites of everything and had to say the pheasant was amazingly juicy and paired with some lovey fall vegetables including the most decadent beet and squash I've ever had because I suspect they were fully poached in butter (but not greasy--delicious). It's on the pricey side for Montreal I suppose, but if you want a good French meal in a relaxed environment.. (the kitchen gave off some serious Zen), I recommend you pop in.
