  • If you want a real speakeasy, go to Speakeasy in the Omni. I have never been so shocked by bad service than I was at this place. My boyfriend and I were looking for a night of live music and good cocktails, with maybe a little room for a slow dance or two? Something old fashioned and classy. We were so excited to go to JSGP, got all dolled up and even took an Uber there so we could really just relax. I had called earlier that day to make a reservation in the speakeasy part of the building and the host told me it was going to be very hard to fit us in. Once we arrived, we were greeted at the door by very casual looking hostesses and saw that we were in what looked like a pretty casual restaurant. The hostesses were friendly, and directed us to a woman in sweatpants sitting on a chair by the stairs. She barked at us for a cover charge, which we were not informed we would need. My boyfriend ask if we could put it on our bill as we didn't bring cash. She said she thought so but she didn't know, and let us downstairs anyway. Once we were downstairs we found ourselves to be one of only two tables, with plenty of empty tables available (not exactly what the host had told us). The band was using the majority of the space in front of our table to set up. The server came over to us and asked for our drink order. He was wearing suspenders and the only moderately acceptable part of our evening. We asked if this was the space where we would be able to have a slow dance to live music. He said he didn't know. A lot of people seemed to not know what was going on in this place. We put our order in for drinks and were handed plastic menus. Not what I was expecting for a 'speakeasy'. We saw how high the prices were for the atmosphere, quality of menu and service and were pretty shocked. The server came back and told us we were supposed to go to the OTHER room for the live music and dancing. To go outside and around the corner to a different door. Okay then. We do as he says and go up a staircase that looks like it's going to the kitchen... I think, "alright, so this is more speakeasy-ish." We get to the top of the stairs and there's a kid who looks like he's still in high school next to the door. He asks us for a second cover charge. Again, we ask to put it on our bill. Keep in mind, we never even received our drinks downstairs. We go into the 'ballroom' of sorts... the best way I can describe it is that it resembled a high school cafeteria prom. There was one other couple in the huge room with us wearing football jerseys, and chairs stacked against the wall. A very, very stressed out server approaches us and informs us that he is the only server working tonight, so it's going to take longer than usual, and if we need him we need to flag him down. I couldn't believe it. I worked in the service industry for years and that is just not acceptable to say the moment someone sits down at a table they had to pay a cover charge for when we were one of two tables that were seated. The server went back to get menus and I told my boyfriend I didn't want him wasting a cent on the place. As we told him we were leaving he got a bit defensive and rolled his eyes. We ended up getting a SECOND Uber back to the southside, changing into jeans, and going to Fatheads. Thank God. This place is not marketing itself correctly at all. I will never go back and never recommend it.
