  • I have lived in a Motheral-managed property for six years. They've done a good job and over the years I have recommended them to many friends. Regrettably, I cannot continue to recommend the company and I will be moving out this summer. Six weeks ago I put up a sign saying, "No matter where you are from, we're glad you're our neighbor." It is in three languages: English, Spanish and Arabic. Today I received a call from the property manager. She said that the owner, Mr Motheral, considered this message "too political for a rental property" so I would have to take it down. America has seen an increasing number of hate crimes directed at Muslims and Latinx people. It's frightening. I thought the sign was a small thing I could do, to help make the atmosphere less frightening and more welcoming. One of my housemates is Latino so it is particularly important for us. It says something very worrying about America right now, that a small, simple act of human decency now appears "political".
