| - I am only glad that I caught the problem before signing the contract. I checked out 18 pool builders and asked 3 for a quote. Craig McClellan from Dolphin pool visited our home and sent us a quote (2 days after he said he would have it to us). I had two issues the first was with some possible excavation for travertine decking, he was at our home and the issue was a possible 5" of trenching. The second was he added a double pole GFI circuit breaker for an added pump, the pool only had one pump. I thought the circuit breaker might be for the salt water chlorinater we added. I asked him about these two items along with a few other items I needed cleared up. Here was his response, "Jim. If u read the back of the Hayward brochure I left at the house it explains that amps are dictated by the speed u run the pump at. I will put in 2, 15 amp breakers at a bare minimum for a pump of any size. The pre grade was to help with the graver removal so u don't do it. 5 inches has nothing to do with a 1.5 inch thick travertine as the patio rises by that much as well. Seams like u where only trying to catch me making a mistake. After 14 years of this I know some pool things. Good luck". First I am a electrician who has hooked up thousands of Variable drive motors and pumps, I knew that the pump could only have one circuit breaker. I checked the owners manuals to verify what I already knew, I even called the pump manufacturer to make sure. This correspondence was on July 2, 2015, on July 3, I emailed the company to let them know they had a problem, I believe a company should have a chance to correct a problem but they need to know it exists. I received a email from one of the owners wife's on July 7, 2015 telling me that the owners had been out of town for the holiday and would get back to me. On July 23, 2015 I sent a second email and finally got to talk to one of the owners on July 30, 2015 (apparently he had tried to contact me on the 27th). He basically brushed me off and said the issue had been addressed. We had transferred the money for the Dolphin pool, all I needed was two issues resolved. My problem is not with the circuit breaker, it is with the parts of the pool that I know nothing about. I got lucky, one of the comments that Craig made to me was, "Loose ends.? If they are loose we would not be doing this for 31 years. I don't have time to argue with non buyers. I said good luck". Paddock Pools was in business a lot longer than 31 years and are now gone, so 31 years does not impress me. As a contractor, I always believed that I was only as good as my last estimate, or the last job that I managed. I hope this helps others avoid the problems I had.
