  • It is finally official! Even though Tempe has not historically been considered to have the biggest sweet tooth, but thanks to Hurts Donut, it is now making its way up the charts. In fact, it is completely off the charts how sweet these donuts can be. So far, the ongoing buzz about these sugary treats and cravings for the most unimaginable sugar high haven't stopped. They are open 25/8, and each Glazed Donut costs $1, Classic $1.50, and Special $2. Their giant sized Apple Fritters are $3, and Cinnamon Rolls are $5. Upon arrival, there was a Hurts Donut "Whaambulance" waiting outside, signaling that this place would be a complete SugarBomb.com! The large interior encompassed a long glass case stacked full of colorful donuts, and two very spacious dining areas with large windows that seemed perfect for groups and large parties. The line was long and persistent, but moved quickly during these visits. It was obvious that they already have a strong following among small children. The atmosphere was fun, inclusive, and family friendly. The Blueberry Streusel was not as sweet as the others, so it can be a nice option for those looking to dodge the sugar. The streusel was a difference maker for this cake donut. The added texture and flavor to the blueberry profile was tasty and really hit the spot. Recommend it. The Peanut Butter and Jelly was another donut that I would recommend. The jelly was light and not too sweet to accompany the glazed donut. I wished they could use real peanut butter, but the frosting tasted just like it and did not disappoint. Overall, it could come with less frosting and more jelly, but this was another donut that I would not mind getting again. The Caramel Apple was good. Soft and fluffy holding a dollop of apples with caramel drizzles on top. It was on the edge of being too sweet, but we managed to share it. The Red Velvet had a spot on flavor, crisp on the outside and cake-like in the middle. However, the frosting was too thick and overpowering. I managed to scrape off most of it. It was a decent donut, but I had better ones elsewhere. The Cinnamon Roll ($5) was the worst and the most expensive I have ever encountered. It was gigantic and probably more than 2,000 calories, but very stiff, dry, and tasteless. Santi brought it back to exchange for a new one, and it turned out just as awful as the first. It hurt my sweet tooth and my wallet. I wouldn't recommend this at all. Service was friendly and efficient on each of our visits. We were pleased that they were willing to let us make an exchange for the Cinnamon Roll. We also find the dining areas well kept, orderly, and clean. Interested diners can expect a great range of choices and options, large sized donuts, and over the top decadence. Thanks to Joyce W for the wonderful recommendation. I would be interested in coming back to try the giant Apple Fritter, the Maple Bar, the English Gentleman, and S'mores, Strawberry, and Lemon Donuts.
