Whenever I venture to New York City, I always make sure to bring back bagels from some hole-in-the-wall joints I know in Brooklyn. Who would have ever thought I would wind up bringing back bagels from Cleveland?!
These bagels can hold their own with a fair number of places in the City. Delightfully crunchy on the outside, thickly fluffy on the inside, these things are built to be devoured, built to pack on the pounds.
But don't show up expecting anything more than bagels. Don't expect any lox, any schmears, any gourmet sandwiches, any service. You get your bagels here, and that's it. There are no chairs or tables to even sit down at. Should you even get anything more than a brusque summary of how much you owe from the cashier, I'd be surprised.
Bring cash. Get bagels. Make something delicious at home. Repeat.
