  • I was lucky to live in Mt Royal only a few minutes walk from this place... But even when I moved away I always came up with an excuse to come to la Maison du Macaron. I have never left disappointed, except when they ran out of some flavours, but this does not happen often. I love macarons with original and even quirky flavours but I always try a simple flavour one: if those ones shine, good chances are that the pastry chef knows what he/she is doing. And those guys come from France so... To get back to the macarons, I tried the vanilla one: made with real vanilla beans, it tasted perfectly sweet with a delicate vanilla flavour. The vanilla black dots are visible and the macaron itself is not coloured yellow like in mediocre patisseries... The hazelnut is however my favourite flavour there but salted caramel and pistachio also deserve an honourable mention. I like the fact that this place creates seasonal macarons for every season, and they seem different every year. I tasted one with fig during Autumn a few years ago... Yum! The Maison du Macaron also converted me to their frozen macaron filled with sorbet and there, If you only try one, go for the pineapple/ basil macaron. I love love love it! Maybe even more than the non frozen ones, but that would be a sacrilege! When I moved to Toronto, I tried to find a place that offered macarons that could compete with those ones but unfortunately, I haven't...
