  • Stopped by Vanguard for a pre-dinner drink with a couple of friends recently. It was my first time stopping by the cozy little bar. It's a stylish place, but very small. I can see how easily this place could get crowded at a busier time than Wednesday at 6:30pm. So, the three of us sat at the bar and took a look at the drink menu. It was happy hour, so obviously, we were happy! I ordered a Moscow Mule, one friend ordered a margarita and the other had something else (I don't remember). The drinks were "hand crafted" so they took a little longer to make. After being served, we started talking to the bartender who explained the "hand crafted" label. They don't use any pre-mixes (unless it's really busy) and all the mixers are made there from scratch. Patience is definitely worth while here. Our drinks were delicious. The bartender was super friendly and really took time with not only making our drinks but also explaining the process to us. I don't remember his name, but he was a bearded gentleman who seemed really passionate about creating those cocktails exactly to the drinker's preferences. I think I'll be back, and very soon!
