  • We always choose American Airlines when we can. This past Christmas with them was awful! We were flying back to Iowa from Arizona with one stop in Chicago. When we landed in Chicago on the way there they cancelled our connecting flight to Iowa while we were up in the air. They told us they were bussing us now and the bus would leave in 2.5 hours giving us en ETA of 2am when it was only 7pm. So, we cancelled that flight to get our money back and we rented a car to drive to Iowa. We would have gotten there no later than 10-10:30 pm. The told us our luggage would be with everyone else's at carousel 4. Two hours later our luggage showed up at carousel 9...our ETA was now 1am in Iowa. This next part is not AA's fault, but still... The only rental car place left with cars available was Hertz. They charged us $300 for a Chevy Spark. It barely fit our standard luggage bags in the back seat, and even then I couldn't see out the rear view mirror. It was -20 by the time we got to Iowa. If you don't know what a Spark is, look it up. I can't believe they even make a car like that. I can't believe a rental car place even offers them. Okay, back to AA. On our way from Iowa to Chicago was cancelled too. They cancelled this at 9am for a 10am flight. Crap! Again, they were bussing us at 10am to Chicago. Our next flight was at 2pm, so there was no way that bus would make it there before 1, and then we would have to get through security at O'hare- not happening. The next flight at 4 was full, so we would have to wait for the 7pm flight from Chi to Arizona. No way! So, we rented a car (a Cruise thank God) and hauled *ss! We made it 20 mins before departure. There is no way that shuttle bus made it to the airport before 2pm like they said would. As of today, we have received only one of the refunds. Two weeks ago we had to call them again to clear up the whereabouts of the second refund. Now, we need to call again. How many people do they do this to that eventually give up? Not us, we want our cheddar back, and they lost two loyal AA members as well. We understand the canceling of the flights was not their fault, it's the luggage situation and lack of timely response to refund that lost us.
