  • I must say I'm ecstatic to find a coffee shop like this in Cleveland. Coming from a large city where coffee options are plentiful, I've found Cleveland's coffee offerings to be decent, but nothing terribly special. This one's a bit off the beaten path, a few blocks away from the main drag of W. 25th, but is easy to find if you're looking for it. I walked in for the first time a few weeks ago, looking a bit lost, but the staff was extremely friendly and eager to help me choose what beans to buy. They also made me an excellent pour-over drink and my girlfriend an excellent latte (she says the best latte she's ever had, even over the ones she's had from Intelligentsia in Chicago). Staff members often engage me in friendly conversation while they brew my coffee as well. They brew with a pour-over, aeropress, and vacuum pot with varying prices, but pour-over is cheapest at $3 (cheaper than pour-over coffee I've had in other cities). I believe that they also offer cold brew, but I have not yet tried it. They roast excellent coffee and their baristas brew it very well. Many restaurants in the neighborhood get their coffee beans from Rising Star as well. Perhaps the only downside is that seating options are limited, especially when the weather is bad and the outdoor tables aren't an option. The shop is in a single room of an old firehouse, and while it has a nice feel with its bright, wooden room with the roasters and large sacks of coffee beans in the background, it's not the most comfortable place to sit down and enjoy your coffee. There is a communal table by the bar, some chairs by the door, and some outdoor picnic tables, which serve, though. This situation, I imagine, will continue to improve as the shop grows, but don't expect to be able to sit down on your laptop for a couple of hours as you might in some larger coffee shops. On the whole, though, this is hands-down the best place to get coffee in Cleveland, perhaps even in the entire Northeast Ohio region. And having been buying their coffee beans weekly for a few months, I feel pretty comfortable saying that these are the best beans you're going to get in the region. Edit: As some may have noticed, Rising Star doesn't do tea (focusing instead on brewing a great cup of coffee). However, there's a tea place opening across the street if that's more you're thing.
