| - I am a barbequer.
I spent a few years in Texas, so I've tried all manner of good barbeque and it is rough to find around Cleveland. Sure, there are some places reviewed on Yelp, but I'm not looking for the finished product. I am looking for brisket.
A tip from my wife's coworker alerted me to this place. They had decent prices on brisket (which still sits uncooked in my fridge, I'll have to review that later) and are one of the few places to get it. However, again, this isn't about barbeque or even raw brisket, which I happily bought.
No, this review is about the experience. I walked in and was hit by the smell. It was intoxicating. Corned beef. Oh my, did it smell good.
So I got in line, which was pretty substantial even though I got there 20 minutes before closing (6 pm, watch that). I saw all the bread and the toppings, which were not my concerns. I check out the huge sign with all the prices and an explanation of their offerings. But when I got to the front, something happened I did not expect. I was there to buy a raw brisket after all.
The nice man offered me a piece of butcher paper with two slices of corned beef.
Holy hell, was that good.
Like an idiot, I went on with my purchase. I bought a nice looking 10 pound brisket, vacuum packed (I didn't expect it fresh cut, as this wasn't a butcher, this is a distributor). Good size, decent fat cap (necessary for BBQ). I also bought a half pound of beef sticks, which are similar to the smokies they sell down at the west side market. Those were amazing. I walked out with my raw brisket and my wrapped up smokies and headed home.
A day later I'm still thinking about that corned beef though...
