| - This is an update. I hate to write bad reviews, but I think it's my duty to do this. Since I pulled my daughter out of the school of Ballet Arizona, I have heard yet more horror stories of the abusiveness of Carlos, the director, to the students. This is not a place to build up your child's or teen's self esteem. I feel it is best not to put details into this review. You can refer to other negative reviews as well. My 1st unedited rather tame review is as follows: My daughter and I have been fans of Ballet Arizona for quite some time, however, we have noticed that they (the company and the "Studio Company") do not often "dance together", in other words, some of the dancers are off rhythm. When we see synchronized swimmers, they are so together, so why can't they dance together like that? As for the school of Ballet Arizona (my daughter was a student), we find that they do not give enough one-on-one to each student. The classes are too large, so there isn't enough time to go around, probably. Technique suffers. They pay too much attention to their productions, so dancers stand around forever in rehearsals, just watching the favorite girls rehearse their parts. Some of the dancers look sloppy. Dancers can't even manage to stand in 5th position properly! I pulled my daughter out and found another studio. Smaller classes, but fine Russian teachers. In just 3 months, her improvement is mind boggling. She is now dancing her heart out!
