| - I'm giving AZ88 five stars for their martinis and ambience! The food is nothing to write home about and therefore a little overpriced IMO, but it is definitely good, and their apps are exactly the greasy stuff you are hungry for when you've had one too many drinks (chicken wings, french fries, etc.).
I choose this place when I want a really good beverage- my drink of choice is the St. Germain. Warning, these are not your typical "Scottsdale" frilly drinks, pretty as they may be- they'll knock you flat if you aren't careful! But I enjoy strong drinks that require you to sip, not gulp like juice. They are pricey, but they are well made of quality ingredients and go a long way.
With regards to the atmosphere, it's pretty chic for Arizona. The ultra modern, all-mirror bathrooms (and the fact that no matter how many times you have been here, you can't find them on the first try) are an endearing quirk to an otherwise very classy space. Very clean (but not stark), not over-designed and they always feature a changing art installation in the middle and sometimes behind the bar as well. I've actually never sat on the patio but the glowing overhang structure is really beautiful and a great first impression.
I can't remember a visit without a great, attentive server. Also, because I was confused before- you seat yourself and a server will find you (and they always do, promptly).
I like any excuse to go here, but I'd especially recommend it when you really want to impress a difficult-to-impress guest, an artsy friend, or a "just drinks" date. Cheers!
