  • It all started with a sale representative knocking on my door on the morning of 12-2-17. He stated he was an ASU student working closely with The Arizona Republic to start delivering newspapers to our apartment complex. I hate to admit it, but this guy blatantly lied to me, and I fell for everything he had to say. For starters, he said that the Arizona Republic is going to start delivering newspapers to my complex free of charge for 3 months. And that all my neighbors will be receiving papers as well. If, after the three months, you like the service, you can request permanent service and pay the $12.99 a month subscription. Hot damn, that sounds great. I don't care about the paper all that much, but I will take it for three months. "It will just cancel on its own in three months if you don't like it" he said. Okay. After filling out some personal information, he lets me know that they encourage "tipping" the individuals that deliver the papers during this free service period. Being a decent person, I don't mind doing that occasionally, so I said that was fine and put myself down for $3 a week tip (Trust me, I feel like an idiot since that adds up to $12.99 a month basically anyways). He needed my card information since I was deciding to tip, but he also said I could do it manually on their website. Feeling like I'm just being a good human, I didn't let it bother me. "I can tip the delivery guy, no problem". Next thing I know, within hours, I have two charges on my bank account for $17.84 from the AZ Republic. So the total for my "free" three months of AZ Republic comes out to $35.68. I call AZ Republic during its next business hours, and I am told that I am signed up for a buy one month, get two months free deal. Unbelievable!! Not even close to what we discuss (I guess a good deal if you really want the paper though). I told her to cancel it immediately and refund all my money. After going back and forth with them, they set up to cancel the account and state that they will refund me the $17.84. Of course, I was charged $17.84 two separate times, so I asked that it all be refunded. The rep stated that he only sees the one charge. I then had to send in my bank statement by fax to prove it. They would not refund it without it. All in all, I'm still waiting for my refund (It better come). This all came about because of a shady sales representative going door to door. If anyone is visited by an AZ rep, shut the door in their face. A bunch of criminals taking advantage of compassion to get newspaper subscriptions. I highly doubt that this "tip" I signed up for was a tip. I hope to never talk to AZ Republic ever again. Stay clear. The sales representatives' code is: WA002 In case your company cares.
