  • WHITE TRUCK SPEAKER SCAM- Left Costco yesterday afternoon around 3:00pm to a man trying to sell a "Kevlar Home Theater System." He starts his sales pitch with "The warehouse gave me an extra entertainment system while i was at work picking up the company's purchased entertainment system." The scammer then pulls out a yellow receipt that says he only was supposed to have one (notice no name, phone, contact information from the company he works for). The scammer then claims that he would like to take it home but lives too far away and is trying to make roughly a couple hundred dollars. Listen to his pitch as he will keep reminding you that he has to get back to work soon and needs to sell it now. He will also mention that his boss is terribly rich and doesn't want him to profit. He'll tell you that you can flip the speaker for even more money. MSRP of the Kevlar Home Theater System? $3,279.00, labeled on the box. If you get caught in one of these scammed sales pitches, look up the model and name of the item, chances are, it doesn't exist or will be hard to find. Lastly, the scammer will talk about the product in great detail and claim that his company uses the entertainment system for places nearby such as the Red Rock Casino hotel rooms. Furthermore, to legitimize his sales pitch, he claims he has just purchased a new truck. This is to make it seem all too legitimate. Look for a white Ford Series Truck (2012-2014) with a California license plate (weird, huh?). After the pitch, I told him I was interested but had no cash. He WILL POINT THE CLOSEST ATM. As we leave, I drive heading towards the atm, but then turn onto Charleston and to the freeway. He will follow you (not really rushed to work now?). After a couple miles, he was gone. If you are a Costco shopper, DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM! I have reported my incident to Costco simply because it's a pyramid-scheme and unsafe for members (look up white van, speaker scam on google, this was a popular scam in the 1980s when home speakers were popularly being sold. Now it's entertainment systems). Please respond if this has happened to you so we can continue to alert Costco of these incidents occurring in their parking lot.
