| - Oh Josies, you could be so good, if you'd get your facts straight.
As a registered dietitian student, I agree with Blair B. about the fructose thing - same thing with agave syrup (It has even more fructose than high fructose corn syrup.) The only reason it gets two stars is because allegedly, Josies has stevia sweetened yogurt (but did not when I was there two days ago on, 8/7/11.)
On to other things, they do have Splenda yogurt. Splenda (Sucralose) is SO dangerous thanks to the chlorine, formed as a chlorocarbon, in it. You know, I really don't understand how people got duped into thinking that consuming chlorocarbons (different than salt which also has chlorine) is safe - you might as well eat DDT (also a chlorocarbon.) http://www.rense.com/general65/splend.htm
Josie's says they don't have HFCS, yet they have gummy bears, M&Ms, various Ghirardelli syrups (which have HFCS) and other candies that all contain HFCS. I don't get how they can advertise that their yogurt is so healthy and HFCS free, yet a majority of their toppings contain HFCS and other artificial ingredients.
I take issue with places that sell junk food and put vaguely sounding "healthy" supplements (a whole different topic to talk about) in an attempt to make people feel like they're "being good." This kind of nonsense is evident in such items such as their "fat burning chocolate" yogurt.
Honestly, if they want to tout themselves as healthy, they should only be using:
-Milk
- Lactobacillus / yogurt starter
- Stevia or Honey
- Real Vanilla, real cacao, mint extract, strawberry pulp, etc for flavoring.
All other ingredients are unnecessary, especially with a high turnover product in a shop like this. The gums, the stabilizers, the natural flavorings (ie: MSG - http://www.truthinlabeling.org/hiddensources.html) are all unhealthy and should not be used.
Anyway, aside from the unethical facade of health that Josies puts on, the shop is cute, clean and well stocked. Unfortunately, when I got my coconut yogurt and blackberry sorbet (tasty, yet dangerously unhealthy when I read up about this crystalline fructose they use) some guy was there, on his cell phone, looming over the toppings reading over the names to his wife. He hadn't even gotten his yogurt yet, but he was oblivious and in the way. Annoying, but that's not really the store's fault though.
If this place changed up their recipe, they could definitely be a 5 star, but as long as they are duping people into believing that their 100% fructose is better than HIGH Fructose and selling this junk to the masses, I will not be returning.
