It's been a year since my last review and the rating for 9-on-9 has slipped from 4* to 3*. Actually, we had reservations there a few months ago but had to cancel because traffic gridlock and lack of parking made it impossible to get to the restaurant even though we were in our car only a few blocks away. Last night was also somewhat frustrating due to the traffic and parking situation. The problem, which can't be blamed on the restaurant, is largely due to the closing of one of the two lanes of Penn avenue for a bicycle lane. It's crazy. Last night I counted 5 bikes in two hours on a very busy Friday night. Cars were backed up at the traffic lights all night!
The restaurant was busy and loud. The menu is little changed from our last visit. We shared the excellent humus trio to start and each chose a pasta main. The lamb ravioli dish was very good, but the shrimp, scallops, and mahi meatballs were dry and disappointing. Service was prompt and professional, but the kitchen was very slow. We waited for at least 45 minutes for our dinners. Our cocktails were as expected and the wine list is suitable but not notable. The menu is diverse enough to satisfy most people, but the portion sizes may disappoint those with a big appetite. Overall, 9-on-9 is a safe choice, but not a great dining experience.
