Sin city, how I missed thee! My last trip was almost a decade ago in October 2006. It so happened D had a convention he needed to go to that was held at the Orleans.
The hotel itself attempts to depict the Mardi Gras theme and it's quite an impressive property with a theatre, 70 lane bowling alley, and an arena among other attractions. It needs all it can too since they are in an island to itself away from the Strip.
Check-in proved to be chaotic taking nearly 30 minutes to get a key and be on our way. It gave time to check out some of the various characters throughout the casino floor and in the line.
The room was a decent size and thankfully had a small work space area since my plan was to work from the hotel for a couple days while D was doing his thing.
The A/C was cranking full time throughout the stay and at certain points I had to raise the temperature since the room was getting chilly.
From our window we could see the pool area below which looked quite large.
Internet service is limited to 3 devices which is priced in the resort fee. Service was okay but it was noticeably slower. They offer an upgrade for an additional Hamilton but declined. It's bad enough to have to pay the resort fees w/o adding additional charges.
Elevator service was fairly good and it was cool to divide the sections into lower floors and higher floors.
Casino play itself was tight. I had a few small wins here and there but gave those back and then some. The smoke wasn't as bad as other properties I've been too so that was a plus.
I partook in the midnight $1 bowling. There was a huge line for getting shoes and games. I couldn't believe they only had one guy working the counter. I felt bad for him. It took a little over 20 minutes to finally get shoes.
D and I went to the theater to catch Independence Day 2. Unfortunately we missed the matinee day so paid higher. They also looked to be doing construction. In fact it felt like we were in our own horror movie trying to get to the right room, which appropriately was #13. I'm assuming it'll look fab when it's done but I won't know...LOL.
Check out was just as much of a nightmare as checking in. They did offer a key drop off but I wasn't able to do so since we checked out after 12PM and wanted to make sure they knew we were out before the 1PM cut-off.
It's a cool spot and actually D and I found a great International Market spot within walking distance of the hotel that we wished were in the Midwest. However unless something was going on here, I wouldn't stay again.
However it was nice to know there is a shuttle that goes from the Orleans to the Linq at the Strip so if we do stay at the strip next trip, we could take that shuttle to Orleans and plan a stop at the International Place. Yeah I was that impressed with it...*LOL*.
Orleans was OK.
