I am writing this review with the following in mind: last year, I went to this restaurant five times and all five times were absolutely outstanding. We went last night and it was not outstanding but just OK.
To begin with, I found it a little odd that it was very easy to get reservations on a Saturday night where it is usually difficult to do that. Still, the seaweed salad was delicious as was the vegetable tempura. We ordered sashimi salmon with lemon and ponzu sauce and it was just OK. I kept being told how tasty it would be but it fell a little flat to me and it was missing acidity. My favorite roll is yellowtail with scallion. I ordered that and I was very disappointed because it was 'mashed' yellowtail with scallion through it and it must have been salted 'or something' because the actual role was very salty without any soy sauce on it. Not good! I explained that what it is is a piece of yellow tail with a little bit scallion on top rolled. Any sushi chef knows exactly what you're talking about so I am not sure what they understood but I clearly said a yellowtail with scallion roll and what I got was not all that appetizing.
My friend got the shrimp tempura roll which did look good and was good. She also got the Philly roll which she likes and I do not care for but she said it was good. She also got a California roll that she said was good. Overall, it only gets three stars from me and is only average for me. I would not rush to go back with the experience I had last night. I am disappointed.
