Last night I realized that I've been to Lon's for my birthday every year for the past 3 years, and I have no problems with that! They have a beautiful outdoor patio, that I would highly recommend for a brunch (you'll get great photos from it, trust me). At night, the lights and Christmas decorations set the perfect ambiance for an evening dinner.
I'm a huge sucker for braised short ribs (it's my go to at any restaurant that offers them), and Lon's does not disappoint! The meat is tender, full of flavor and falls apart easily with a fork. You can also never go wrong with a side of mac & cheese either!
Last night, I tried something new and ordered their "Local Bison Duo". It came with 3oz of short ribs and cocoa-rubbed Tenderloin. Shockingly, the short rib portion of the dish was not the star... it had a strange taste that tasted too gamey and wine-y. The tenderloin on the other hand was fantastic. It was cooked to the right consistency and super juicy. It paired well with the parsnip puree and brussels on the plate.
I love the cowboy decor in the restaurant - it creates a homey/nostalgic feeling of Old Arizona, which makes for a great dining environment if it's too cold outside. Whether you're out on the patio or inside, Lon's friendly staff and hearty food (also their mini cornbread bites) will make sure you and your dinner party enjoy yourselves!
