  • Worst landlords everrrrrr!!!!! So my junior year of college, I decide to live with 3 other friends. I was abroad the first semester and couldn't help too much with the apartment finding process thus we were still looking in mid-January and I already back in the states. We decided to go to some showings. On first glance, these Mullins apts were okay but I had reservations as my bf lived in Mullins before and his place was a dump. The management did fix stuff if you persevered and talked nicely, but in reality those were their responsibilities in the first place and should have been completed before allowing new tenants to move in. My bf and his roommate experienced bedbugs, mold, and had a dishwasher that was so disgusting they didn't even bother using it. However, rent was cheap. My roommates wanted to rent the apt that we saw, but I expressed these concerns. They wanted to get it anyways. Big mistake. The move in day was a DISASTER. My roommates and I were in line to get our keys when we got a call from friends who were waiting at the apt to help us unload. The back door was unlocked. The inside was trashed. Mirrors were broken, the floor was wet, sinks hanging off their hinges. How can we move in our stuff today if the apt is unprepared? It was obvious that the management didn't bother to clean/ repair the apt much less even LOOK at it after the previous tenants moved out. We told them that we were uncomfortable with paying for our first month of rent if we literally didn't have a place to move into. They suggested that we keep our stuff in our Uhaul until they fixed it up. WE would be the ones paying the fee to keep the truck for more days when it was THEIR fault for not having the apt ready. It was obvious that they weren't going to help us so we had to insist and be pushy when they should've apologized and been helpful. They did eventually let us stay for free at a hotel for one night, but this didn't answer the question of where we could put our stuff. The necessary repairs would also not be done in a one night time span. We eventually decided to move all our stuff into one of the rooms that seemed the least trashed. They spent at least a week working on the apt (we had to demand this, they would have happily let us live in a dump). Eventually we got new carpet, a sheer crappy layer of new paint, new floor in the kitchen, the sink secured, and a new mirror for the bathroom. We had to live in this apt while these repairs were being made. Workers came in and out of our house at will which greatly stressed us out, violated out privacy, and put out property at risk. These things should have already been tended to before we moved in. Also, the landlords should have been apologetic and rushing to fix things up. Instead, they were rude and treated us like we were trying to get money out of them. We had to live around the workers and weren't able to unpack for days. I'm pretty sure a lot of things that they did or failed to do broke some laws. The management obviously hated us and accused us of having a party in the apartment and trashing it (the first night when we were homeless and staying at the hotel). They hushed each other us really quickly so it was either a different apartment that they mistook us for or some kids secretly trashed our apt even more. Worst experience ever. I will NEVER EVER EVER live with Mullins again.
