  • Madeleines, Cherry Pie and Ice Cream is filled with never-ending treat options. The store has an array of freshly baked cookies, cakes, squares, chocolates, unique desserts and most importantly, pies. Madeleines has a very charming European décor! It felt as though you had step into a flowery continent. Fortunately enough, my male friend was extremely in touch with his femininity. He even had illy coffee in a tea cup with his pinky up. Good friends sharing our passion for delicious treats, what more can anyone ask for! Cherry Pie ($5.95) + Ice Cream ($1.99) We couldn't leave Madelines without trying their infamous pies. The pie crust was good. It was flaky while maintaining its form. There were three different types of Kawartha Diary ice cream to choose from: vanilla, strawberry and chocolate. Admittedly, I have a grave sweet tooth but the filling was cloying sweet. Perhaps it was not the best pie, but it was a decent pie nonetheless. Leek & Goat Cheese Quiche ($5.50) The friendly staff had reheated the quiches for us. The quiche crust is different than that of the cherry pie. It was slightly lighter and less flaky than the cherry pie crust. I assumed it was deliberate to accommodate the behavior of the different fillings or was the act of microwaving. I hope it was the prior. Reheating had altered the properties of the filling, although leek and goat cheese was a delicious combination, liquid was seeping from the filling; as an unwanted result, the bottom of the quiche was slightly soggy. While I am not a fan of mushy bottom quiche, I felt the quiche had a pleasant flavor profile. Super Chocolate Brownie ($2.25) The super chocolate brownie was made with traditional ingredients: sugar, butter, cocoa, vanilla, chocolate and a pinch of salt. It was more fudgy than cakey. My friend felt it was decent; not too dense and not to chocolaty. I on the other hand, would have preferred more chocolate density. Cinnamon Cigars ($1.25) The cinnamon cigars were too adorable to be left in the jar. The phyllo pastry was crispy on the outside and filled with sugary cinnamon on the inside. My friend preferred the cinnamon cigar over the chocolate brownie. It may very well be the only masculine Cuban-drug-lord type of dessert at Madelines. Madeleines, Cherry Pie and Ice Cream is a charming café with a steep price. It certainly hit some of the g-spot (g for good of course). All the sugary treats were slightly overwhelming! Hopefully, my sugar induced hyperness did not annoy my friend too much.
