In Las Vegas...there's no such thing as a sure winner (except a parlay on Green Bay and Over for SB XLV).
But there is such a thing as a sure loser. And that involves a stay at the Planet Hollywood Towers.
The first "7". We arrive Friday before 6pm. Right in front was a front that said "Valet Full". How the heck can valet be full when most of the world aren't here yet or out and about? There wasn't even a single bell hop around to help with the bags. So cars had to be self-parked and baggage had to be dragged across a parking lot. Strike 1 for service.
The second "7". Check-in was a disaster. The number of people walking around with clipboards and the number of people behind the counter initially outnumbered the guests in line. But then one by one...the ones behind the counter left. I guess they had to step aside to go valet cars? I had fully pre-paid for 2 rooms. But they wouldn't give me keys to both rooms unless the occupants of the other room were there. Strike 2 for service.
The third "7". Now this is 2am...after a fabulous Super Bowl party elsewhere. The fire alarm goes off. I stepped out into an empty hallway. There was one other person out there. We shrugged at each other and went back to our rooms. 10 minutes later...people on our floor and the floor above start heading for the exits. People were walking down the emergency exit and there was shattered glass all over. Ouch for those who left without their shoes. When we reached the bottom and stepped out on to the street...there were no employees...no first responders...no firefighters. Not to mention...no fire and no smoke in sight. After 10 minutes standing out in the cold night...we headed back in. We asked a guy about the reported smoke on the 9th floor. He said the smoking area is outside. We went to the front desk with the same question. The girl told us it's only her and the assistant manager working. Of course...he's nowhere to be found. I sure hope he wasn't the guy who directed us to the smoking section.
So let me sum this third part up. Fire alarms went off. No one came to make sure everyone evacuated. Guests left on their own. No one checked on them when they got out. No one came to tell them they can go back in. Guests go back in on their own. No one can give them any information. The only thing staff can do...is act as if nothing happened. Strike 3 for service.
Stay here and you're sure to hit the nightmare of jackpots.
