Maybe it was just an off night... But Mercurio's did not live up to the hype this past Friday evening. I wanted to love it - I expected to love it...
Ever since last month's Yelp event, Under the Big Top, when I was introduced to Mercurio's pizza and gelato - I have heard nothing but good things. Friday night seemed like the perfect opportunity to check it out in person.
We ordered 2 pies: The Bianco and the Salsiccia e Funghi. Both pizzas arrived very quickly to our table, and slightly burnt. The ingredients were very fresh and light, however the pizza dough was a fluffy, naan-like consistency. It's not that the pizza was bad, but for the hype that has surrounded the pizza and experience, it was hardly remarkable. For all the Italian home style fan fare that you're presented with, you'll not find anything on the menu besides a few salads and pizza variations.
I was even more surprised that there wasn't a dedicated chef, but rather a few individuals and an enlarged convection oven. I am sad to say that I felt like there was more attention to detail at the previous Yelp event than at the restaurant itself.
