| - The only Hertz location in the tri-state area that requires proof of auto insurance when renting a car.
In my many years of car rental experiences, that was a first! I've even rented vehicles in foreign countries with less fuss. But hey, there's a first time for everything, right?
Most everyone who rents a car pays with a credit card, and their credit card covers any sort of car rental accidents (with a deductible). Moreover, if it's a work trip that requires a rental car, there's additional insurance policies that cover worst case scenarios.
Nope, that's not good enough for Hertz on E Sahara in Las Vegas. And they don't explicitly tell you that proof of auto insurance is required when you request a rental online.
How many people actually carry around their auto insurance policy in their wallet? Not many. Most keep it in their own vehicle or at home. Lucky for me, a work colleague along for the ride has an auto insurance card in his wallet.
I can understand why auto insurance is important when renting a car. In Las Vegas. However, this should be clearly communicated from Hertz, otherwise it comes off scammy since Hertz will gladly upsell you on their own insurance at an additional $40 per day.
Very odd car rental experience. If you are renting in LV, get yours from the airport or one of the casino rental locations. This particular one is not worth the effort.
