  • I couldn't wait to write this review. I went here the day prior to having anything done. I had gone all over central Phoenix in search of someone to cut my hair in to a pixie. My first stop was at the Smartstyle in Walmart, still no pixie but I paid $35, my hair still wasn't cut, but it was deep conditioned, and the girl made a horrible attempt at an undercut.. I was so embarrassed after stopping at Smartstyle, that I went straight home. The next day I drove to Daivontes, I honestly figured since I have thick hair and it was a Black ethnic salon that I would just stop wasting money and give them a try. I usually opt out of ethnic salons due to the pricing. So I drive up and I see a lady walking out of the shop with a box. I ask her if she could tell me the price of a cut and style, she told me she didn't work there anymore, but I could knock on the door and ask the lady inside. So I park the car and go to the door which was locked. I knocked and they never came to answer, so I drove off. That same day I left feeling upset about my hair, then I remembered Ulta had a hair salon. I called right away, and was able to get in the same day with Teasha. Fast forward, and she cut my hair in to a cute little pixie and cleaned up the mess of an undercut left behind from the girl at Smartstyle...BUT with coarser hair, a cut looks better when it's heat styled afterwards. A regular flat iron will do, but for a professional look you would need to have someone flat iron your hair with a Marcel brand flat iron because of the heating capabilities. Ulta didn't use this tool, so I knew the next day I would have someone do it for a few bucks and then I would be done with this whole hair fiasco. Fast forward to today and I go back to Daivontes.  There is a young girl outside wiping the windows down, at the entrance. She walks inside when I approached.  So once inside I turn to her and say hi I wanted to know how much you all charged for a flat iron. She never turns around to acknowledge me, she has her back turned like she owes me money. A lady in the back answers and says to the girl it will be $45 bucks, go ahead and do it for her. This girl still doesn't acknowledge me still and continues wiping down seats and doors down. So after 10 minutes,  she says you can sit over here. She didn't wash the chemical from her hand or anything, and HATE dirty hands in or on my hair. She points me to a seat and she starts flat ironing my hair, just like that. No heat protectant, no sanitized comb...and to top it off, with a regular flat iron. In my head, I'm like is this for real, I'm going to pay $45 bucks for something that I could do at home, for free! So the lady, who I learned is the owner comes over and says, naw sweetie, come over here and I'll do it. She tells the girl she knew she was scared. What! Anyways, so I ask if SHE could use the Marcel iron, and she said she would and it would be $25 since it was just the flat iron. But wait! she says I need to run to the bank, can you wait? (typical ethnic salon)I just say okay, because what I really wanted to say, was best left in my head. So I ask if I could pay debit, and she says she only takes cash. So I had to send my sister to withdraw  money for me and bring it back. Then she says she won't go to the bank because it was just $5...okay. So all while she's doing my hair, she's talking negatively about the state of my hair. It's dry, it's damaged. So I ask what she recommended. But did she stop, no! She had to keep talking down about my hair and making noises of disapproval.  She even told me that I need to sit at home and put a bag on my head for hours and moisturize since I didn't have anything else to do, since I'm at home using boxed dyes. I didn't even respond, that's how upset I became. Up until now, it was just the three of us, and the she had a few customers. They started talking about t.v shows and doing a ton of gossiping with the lady doing my hair. Meanwhile this hot iron is getting closer and closer to the side of my face. The gossip was real funny, seeing as this salon boasts of being a "Christian" salon hahaha...that's typical, it was more like hell or at least purgatory. So as she finally finishes my hair, she asks if she can cut a piece of hair near my ear because it was just bothering her. She said it just didn't sit right. Let me say, in all of the times I have been to a ethnic hair salon, they have chopped my hair off, by convincing me the style would look better shorter. So I say no, and she says smugly, well do what you want, just dont tell anyone I did your hair. I paid and as I walked out could hear her tell her next customer how dry my hair was and they laughed. This lady needs to go back to doing hair in her kitchen, because herself and her broom maiden are destined to be unemployed! Learn how to run a professional business. I'm sure she'll be packing up within six months tops anyways.
