The NY NY overall is a decent hotel. The casino isn't huge, which makes it easy to navigate and there are still plenty of slot machines and gaming tables. There are many small restaurants in the hotel where you grab something quick to eat. Although the hotel is on the south end of the strip, it's easy to walk to the middle of the strip. The downside though is that you have to walk outside to do that. In fact, you have to walk outside to get to any other hotel from there. That's something that would be nice to avoid when it's 110+ degrees in the summer. Many Vegas hotels are connected to other hotels inside. The pool is also small and there aren't many chairs around it.
On this trip, I decided to upgrade to the strip view. I found that to be a waste of money. Not only was the window dirty, the view wasn't great. The rooms aren't bad but I think they're a little outdated. The room I was in had a popcorn ceiling, the bathroom felt old and had only one sink, and although the TV was an LCD TV it didn't receive HD TV.
