  • Danger Will Robinson, Danger! I went to these guys to fix my game console. I had read a few review that sounded promising, and they were closer to my new house as I recently moved. There were some red flags that I should have picked up on, but given they were a new business, I went in with an open mind. The first red flag was that when I walked in with the console, they also required the power supply, a controller & a game to test it with. I thought that was odd, as you are in the business of game repairs, these are things I would think you would have readily available. Ok, I handed them over. Secondly, when the accepted the job the clerk said "OK, we'll see if there's anything we can do." Not at all what I wanted to hear, zero confidence builder or assurance. I wasn't expecting a testimonial, but even a "We'll do our best" would have sufficed lol. I didn't hear from them for over a week, and on my first call to check it's progress (without any pressure) they sounded surprised to hear from me. The person I talked to said "they have it open, but they haven't found the issue yet" and I was asked to call back to talk with the technician. When I called back the technician answered, and once I told him who I was and what I was calling about he said "I'm gonna be honest with you, I haven't even had a chance to look at it yet" and blamed it on the holiday. This would have been ok, but the last associate sang a completely different tune. I was told he needed some time, and I told him "no pressure, I just want it fixed." About a week later I called back, and was told it was still being worked on. Weird and all, I still gave them the benefit of the doubt and said ok to continuing to wait longer. A few days later I got a call saying "I THINK it's ..., and will order the part for you. They game me the price and time frame, and I agreed to complete the repair. I was told it would take 4 days for them to receive the part, and then 24 hours for the actual fix. When I called back as asked, they said "I have some bad news for you, that didn't fix the problem." I was not at all happy with that, of course, and asked what was next. I was told "I wanna try something else" and he told me a bit about what he was thinking of doing. I'm not a game tech, so although I can appreciate more info rather than less, I agreed thinking he assumes it will help the situation, so I reluctantly agreed. About a week later, I receive a call that "we couldn't fix your machine, we did everything we could." I was speechless, but I went there to collect my items. They didn't charge me for anything, and for that I am thankful because I went back there unwilling to pay them for anything. They apologized, and I left. I will say that everybody there was friendly and polite, but I still feel as if this was almost a month of wasted time. I then took my game to Game Repair 1 on Tenaya, a great shop I've used for repairs before and they did amazing. Fixed my previous issue, inexpensively within 72 hours. I told them what the issue was, they found me in their computer and said "We'll fix it, no problem." I was called by them of the second day of the repair, they told me that whatever the last shop did to the motherboard (that "I have one other thing I wanna try") fried my machine and it was literally done. However, they DID sell me a used machine for the same price (which was less than the first place was charging me, and as I said the same amount I was quoted when I brought it in. I will be writing Game Repair their own review on Yelp, as they truly deserve all the accolades on this one. Great store, cool guys. I should have trusted my instincts and went there first, but I was just trying to go with convenience and give the new guy a try. I'm a businessman myself, so fair business is important to me. However, I've learned my lesson on this one. I'm a either you can do it or you can't kinda guy. "Maybe we can fix it" sounds like something a hobbyist says when he tinkers with an old watch. I'm not saying they are incompetent at all, just that maybe they should present things a bit differently before taking on all jobs. If they would have said to me "we may not be able to repair it, but would you like us to take a look and possibly try?" If I knew that, I would have gathered my things and went straight to Game Repair. I appreciate their time & efforts, as well as them being helpful & polite. I also appreciate them not attempting to charge me for their attempt. I merely make suggestions that may help for your business practices going forward. I'm just gonna leave it right there. If you want reliable repairs from competent technicians at affordable prices, I'd suggest Game Repair 1 for all your gaming needs. They also sell good used games and even sell used game systems. When he doesn't have something, he'll usually tell you where you can go to find it at the best price. Ask for Brian, and tell him Phil (the Giants fan) sent ya!
