  • The doctors here are great. All of the doctors I've seen have been more than willing to explain about your conditions or answer any questions you have. As common as you would expect that to be elsewhere, it's sad to say that it's not so this is a rare jewel in the VA system. Now after mentioning the Drs of course the next logical thought would be the receptionists and nurses. This is a HUGE downfall for this VA. As terrific as the Drs are the receptionists are you would think the receptionists would be just as good but that is severely wrong. I have witnessed receptionists and nurses degrade patients both to their face and behind their backs. One time in the Jade Opal clinic a nurse was so degrading to a patient that when he asked her for her name she flat out refused to tell him so she could not be reported. I also tried to get her name to take it to the directors office but she wouldn't give it to me either. Speaking of the director every other VA I have been a patient at including the Washington DC VA the director had an open door policy. The directors office here however has their glass doors locked and if you try to get in to speak to someone the people in the directors office look at you through the glass like your an animal at a zoo. They rarely let patients in and if they do they pawn them off on someone other than the director. If you CAN get inside to speak to someone though then any problem you have will quickly be taken care of. Speaking of problems don't waste your time trying to speak to the patient advocacy people. I have called them in regards to 4 separate instances and not 1 time have I EVER heard back from them. Making an appointment here is just like any other VA so it takes a while. Every VA in the country is backed up to get to their patients and this one is no different so I can't fault them for that. There are so many other things that need improvement here I'm not even going to attempt to list them all but I will say that one time I needed an MRI of my back as soon as possible because of new symptoms so I was told to go to the ER which in turn admitted me into the hospital so I could get my MRI the NEXT AFTERNOON because the ER doesn't do MRI's. First off my case was not an extreme emergency. I just needed an MRI soon and it was not life threatening so there was no need to admit me to the hospital so I could get a quicker MRI done. Second if it had been a life threatening emergency the ER here wouldn't even have been able to help me. I see this as a huge waste of resources and irresponsibility on the VAs part. I started out this review wanting to give this VA 4 stars because my doctors are so terrific but as I've written this review I realized I couldn't give a good star rating. Some of these issues I have listed are so bad that Doctors have been walking out of work and quitting. The ONE good thing about this VA IS the Doctors and the conditions are bad enough to even make them quit coming. The only thing I can recommend for improvement at this point is for a total removal of the director and her staff and hopefully the new director would get rid of the bad nurses and bad receptionists and clear up the other problems because with the Drs at this VA it has the POTENTIAL to be the best VA in the country. It's just sad that the paper pushers here don't care enough to make it the best.
