| - Meh is my takeaway from my 2 visits here. The actual hall is really nice, I grant that, and the location is great. Seeing the Stanley Cup and the rings is truly a site and one worth seeing for even the slightest hockey fan. I was hoping I'd get more the second time, but I really didn't, unfortunately.
Where it fails is in substance and diversity. For the size it is, I expected a more indepth history of hockey and more videos and more varied exhibits. I did enjoy the NHL Zone, but I feel like it could have had more depth and taking up too much space for what it offered. I felt like the exhibits had too many jerseys, and when you made it to the minor league section, it started feeling repetitive. The interactive scoring and blocking is definitely pretty great, but the lines are long for them and you don't learn a whole lot about the sport, only the current state of hockey in the NHL and highlights from last year's finals.
I have seen most of the professional HOFs and this one I would have to say was not very satisfying, in terms of its potential. I think the NHL HOF is not mining the sport of professional hockey as much as it could.
For avid fans, you must see this, full stop. For less-than-avid fans, I wouldn't come to Toronto from far away for this. If you are in the city, of course go see it, would be a travesty not to, just don't expect to be blown away when you do.
