  • Atrium Animal Hospital is a very different kind of practice than a "normal" vet -- they balance traditional treatments and holitic treatments, and therefore, will give advice based on both perspectives. One vet there is only holistic (which they don't tell you when you call for an appointment) and I don't recommend her for traditional care at all, she is the owner/founder of the practice, Dr. Hombs. If you seek soley holitic treatments, then make an appointment with her. Don't come here if you're looking for someone to just give you a pill and call it a day. They will test, re-test, try holitics (if you choose) and try to fix the problem rather than applying a temporary fix. I've been going here for a few years and would highly recommend Dr. Lathan and Dr. Smithson, they are absolutely fantastic and really listen to my concerns before just shoving me out the door to see another patient. They regularly call after visits to check on my dogs and they really, truly like my dogs (and remember them from visit to visit). There is a new vet on staff that I am not familiar with. They also have a physical therapist that I have only recently met and she is great, too! Again, they will prescribe medications, but they will also look for other solutions -- like physical therapy, herbal remedies or accupuncture. You are free to choose the treatment you prefer. If you're more comfortable with traditional, then you just have to tell them. The biggest con to Atrium is the cost of care - they are more expensive than traditional vets; however, I believe it is due to their alternative treatments and the extra time they spend with your pet. The facility is very clean and orderly, the staff is very nice and efficient. I do sometimes have to wait longer than I like to get in to see a vet, even with an appointment, but I've never been to a vet or a people-doctor where that isn't the case. I feel completely comfortable with Atrium and know that they will care for my pets and that they will listen to my concerns and allow me to be an advocate for my pets' care.
