| - I stayed at the Gadventures lodge, which is located 2 hrs from Puerto Maldonado by boat, as part of the Amazon to the Andes package. Here, I am only reviewing the activities in the Amazon, and NOT the lodge/food/service or the Andes part. The lodge/food/service were great. Gadventures should make it clear when advertising this trip that it is meant for children. I have had more of a sense of adventure at central park or at my local arboretum than on this Amazon trip.
The group arrived at the lodge around 3pm after the two hour motorized boat ride. After checking in we were told that that night we were going on a night walk. After having dinner we embarked on our first "expedition", which was nothing more than a walk that lasted just over 1hr down a path adjacent to the lodge...that was all for the first day of the advertised 3day amazon trip.
The next morning we had breakfast at 7am and donned our jungle boots in preparation to what we all were expecting to be an epic expedition. We rode the boat for about 30 min. Then we started walking, actually we spent more time standing and listening to the guide than walking. After walking for about 30 min on a very well marked path we arrive at a what we were told was a lake. Well, it was nothing more than a pond. There we got on a canoe and were taken around the pond as if we were children. Then we walked back and got on the boat for our 30 min trip to the lodge. We arrived at around 11am to rest or just walk around (leisure time) until lunch, which was at 1pm. Lunch? I asked myself, I have yet to burn off my breakfast and now I am told to just do nothing but wait for lunch. After lunch, more rest time before going out on our next "expedition" to the farm that supplies the lodge with fruits, chickens.
After 5 min on the boat, we arrive at the farm. All we did was to stand around feeding chickens, and listing to the guide telling us what a this fruit and that fruit was. The fruits were not even hanging from trees, they were laid on a table for us to admire in awe. That was it. Back on the boat for the 5 min ride to the lodge. To do guess what?...You guessed right, just to rest and wait for dinner. After dinner we went for a night boat ride looking for caimans. About 1.5 hrs later we were back.
Next morning, breakfast and head back home.
By far this trip was the biggest waste of my money and time!!!!
